Quality control

Every stage of a survey is carried out under the company's written procedures, applied by field and office staff.

Multibeam patch test

Calibration of the system's angular offsets before every campaign.

Sound velocity profile

Measured on every campaign, as it varies with water temperature and salinity and directly affects computed depth.

Uncertainty computation (TPU)

Propagation of system uncertainties through to each delivered sounding, following the approach the IHO S-44 standard uses to express survey quality.

Bar check

Echosounder verification with a plate lowered beneath the transducer to known depths, before the survey starts.

Post-processing and data cleaning

Data cleaning and verification before delivery, under a written procedure.

Tide reduction

Referred to the level agreed with the client; in ports, usually mean low water springs.

On the S-44 standard. The total propagated uncertainty (TPU) computation we apply is the mechanism the International Hydrographic Organization's S-44 standard uses to express survey quality. The order of the standard that applies to a given job is agreed in the contract and demonstrated with that job's own data. It does not follow from owning a particular instrument, and this page makes no blanket claim of compliance with any order.

Reference frame and datum. In Costa Rica the coordinate system is CRTM05. The vertical reference level is agreed with the client; in port work it is normally mean low water springs. Where tender documents require it, charts are also delivered in WGS84.

Scope of our services

  • AQUASURV does not carry out dredging works: it measures, controls and verifies volumes independently of the contractor.
  • It does not produce official nautical charts, which are the responsibility of the national hydrographic authority.
  • Compliance with an S-44 order is agreed in the contract and demonstrated with the survey's own data.
  • Land surveying and statutory registry work are handled by our sister company, ASINGTOPO.
